As Crusader says David weldone looks like a Laurette head bust of but defiantly RomanCRUSADER said:Roman Sestertius - well done, but a full id would be near on impossible. It will fall into the 1st-2nd century bracket though.

I don't know how you can say great ID without any of the legend visible it could be a number of Emperors, as I said earlier it's a Laurette head bust ofIronSpike said:I agree that it does look like a match. Great ID Lazooro
You better send Crusader your e-mail address
Nah - its none of these.Silver Searcher said:I don't know how you can say great ID without any of the legend visible it could be a number of Emperors, as I said earlier it's a Laurette head bust ofIronSpike said:I agree that it does look like a match. Great ID Lazooro

You are missing the point, I was pointing out that the coin could be any of these emperors, the coins I posted were just a refrence to the laurette head bust , nothing to do with the reverce. And I can't see Winged Victory on your coin, but then you have the coin in front of you, but if you want Winged Victory on another.....I'm not trying to be clever or anything, it's just without the legend you just can't tell.DavidBeard said:Nah - its none of these.Silver Searcher said:I don't know how you can say great ID without any of the legend visible it could be a number of Emperors, as I said earlier it's a Laurette head bust ofIronSpike said:I agree that it does look like a match. You can clearly see 'Winged Victory' on the left-hand side with arms out-stretched to the right -
IS...I am not saying defanetly it's not that coin, just that there are a number of rulers that have coins depicting Victory on the reverce, here's anotherIronSpike said:I based my comment on the reverse side of the coin. Postion of arms and the wings appear to be a match. Have never dug a Roman coin and don't know much about them. If it isn't match I stand corrected.
No what you meen, Id any coin here can be a night mare there are so many different variations, on Roman and hammered, I almost never give a full ID, just the basic. like King, and MintIronSpike said:I did find a lead bale seal when I detected in Italy (couldn't id any markings ). I can see the difficulty in ID'ing Roman coins (this ID does appear very close). Love the way you Brits will say: "go find a better one"
No - not missing the point - It could have been any of those emperors you mention if it wasn't for the position and posture of 'Victory' (and both arms) - It will be the reverse (or whats left of it) that will give it a positive ID - Very different to all the examples you've shown so far - yes, I know it helps to have the coin in the hand.Silver Searcher said:You are missing the point, I was pointing out that the coin could be any of these emperors, the coins I posted were just a refrence to the laurette head bust , nothing to do with the reverce.
