Hi all, I got the usual phone call last night about going detecting today, so I was up at 6 or 7am, not sure which, because the clocks went forward or back or sideways or something (why do they still mess about with the clocks :tongue3:). When we got on the field there was a really cold easterly blowing straight off the sea, I still can't feel my nose, and no shelter. We both got a handful of Romans and other bits and bobs, most of which are still soaking, but towards the end of the morning I got a sweet signal and up popped this little 2nd/3rd century seal-box lid. I didn't know what it was at first, so I sent some pics to the UKDFD and they identified it straight away and said it was ok to upload ;D (see link) http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/ukdfddata/showrecords.php?product=30662&cat=142
Anyway here are the pics

Had a few, infact I think I have that design. Always thought it's Romano-Celtic in style :icon_thumright: Good base indicator for a good site

I didn't know the UK did daylight savings time. :dontknow: We turned our clocks forward last Sunday.
Great find you have there. HH, Roger

Very nice find............ it never ceases to amaze me the condition of finds like this with the age they have.. :o

Hi Stew and welcome to Tnet :icon_thumleft:, I agree about the condition of finds. It amazes me too, a Roman coin will come out of the ground almost perfect and a Viccy penny will be hardly recognizable :dontknow:.

It was definitely brass monkies out there today :laughing7:, but knowing your find rate, you'll find one very soon and probably complete :icon_thumleft:

Thanks Dave, I don't think it has a monetary value as such, maybe if it had been complete :dontknow:. The value to me is that I found it :laughing7:

Hi Cru, this site was deep ploughed this year for the first time for many years, and this field is split into 2. The other half is going under the plough soon. It's right next to where I found the Thrymsa, but I am finding great big lumps of hypocaust this year, and my roman count for this field for the last 3 outings, of about 4 hours or so each, is 27, mostly grots, but 2 silver denarii and a nice sestersii came out for my friend in the last 2 outings.

We'll stop messing about with our clocks if you stop putting the letter 'U' in words where it just don't belong, ie. 'Moulded' and 'Colour' ;D
Kidding, man! Nice find :icon_thumleft:
