We started the day in the rain & it was on & off all day. We are starting to grid out of the main area & we only expected about 5 Roman Coins on the edge of the site. Instead we were shocked with the total, in just 3 hours 45 minutes.

30 Roman Coins!
Roman Ring fragment
2 Roman Mounts
My first Roman 'Duck' Brooch (Head missing)
Nice 17th C Lead Seal of the Norwich Weavers Company
Stunning 16th C German Jetton!
17th C broken book Mount
Cauldron Foot

And on our 2nd hunt of the year a Saxon Sceat;
AD700-720
Minted in Netherlands
Plumed Bird Type

This hunt will be hard to match until harvest time!!!

That Saxon coin is amazing and tiny ! What is the coin with the ship and fleur de lis ?

That's the 16th C German (Nuremberg) Jetton (counting token). These are thin brass/copper alloy & they hardly ever come out this nice. One of my best.

If you are going to finish one year with Saxon, you might as well start the next with the same....Great stuff.

Yeap, it's the same site as the AS Penny. We have had only 1 other Sceat from this site in the past, although a friend had 1 other as well. So 3 total now.

Amazing finds, congrats!

Very interesting bunch of finds. It would be amazing to me to be detecting and finding such old coins and relics. The age and history there is astounding. Any way, great job:icon_thumleft:

I am redundant !! lol !!

Very nice find!! I agree, it'll be pretty hard to match that! Congrats!!

Great day out with the two excellent finds, the Sceat is in real crisp condition but the Jetton is one of the nicest one I've layed my eyes on, CONGRATS! It's so nice I'm going back to have another look.

Yes, I love that Jetton. I've had a couple of earlier thicker types in nicer condition, but ones like this are about 1 in 200.:icon_thumright:

What a day you had! Great score on the romans topped with the Jeton and Saxon! :icon_thumleft:

Well you two are off to a roaring start for 2014! This was supposed to be the lack luster part of the field? Boy oh boy!
Congrats!
Looks like somebody is trying to improve the economy of the USA by filling in the middle of a zinc, who knows maybe it will work! Lol!

We did pretty good today as well, I will post in about 1 hour!

Did you know right away that it was a skeat? Are they easily distinguishable from a Celtic coin? I need to read up on them in case I ever make it over there one day :)
