Wow another great day with lovely weather. We had 1 objective today - finish the Eastern edge of the site. Failed after 3.5 hours the coins are still coming...This scatter is massive!

More importantly the XP restored the balance & got the best 2 finds plus a 14-5 win on Roman Coins.:laughing7:

19 Roman Coins - 3 Album quality with 1 being a type we have only had once & not as good as this one (Star reverse)
Late Medieval Buckles
17th C Token
1888 5 Rappen - Switz
Frag of Roman Bracelet
STUNNING - Roman Bronze Stylus, checked both UK databases & I can only find 1 as good as this! A first for me.:headbang:
Also it's been some time since I got a nice complete;
Lead Pilgrims Ampulla - Lombardic T - Caterbury Shrine - Thomas Beckett.:icon_thumright:
These were thought to have been used to bless the ground for good crops & it was at the bottom of a Medieval Field system - Ridge & Furrow. They must of been poor, because we are getting a few signs but no hammered yet!

This is already our best January EVER! We haven't finished yet & we have over 100 Roman Bronzes from this one site & 125 so far this year!

I can't say what i like more, the pilgrims ampoule, the stylus, or the fact that you have an amazing site on hand.... Very well done, Congrats! :icon_thumleft:

I like the Stylus the best, as I have a couple of other Ampulla.

We are lucky this time of year, as they decided to leave us a couple of good options when we normally would have none. (Or very poor fields with no Sites.)

The Stylus is beautiful! Such good condition and with the hanger.... just WOW!

That is the first example of the stylus I've ever seen. The lead ampula is great. Are those sealed, and if so do they still contain water?

Best Wishes,

Buck

They were sealed & you can still see the bite marks where they did it with their teeth. Then after the long journey home from Pilgrimage (only time a peasant was allowed out the villiage), they would open it & pour the Holy water on the field, or use it on the sick. Sometimes they placed it over doorways to ward off evil spirits.

Yours is nicer, Cru!

Amazing hunts as always.

You guys are truly amazing!

Triple nice hunt, the stylus is the first one I've seen posted up for sure and what a great looking relic. The ampulla is in really nice shape for the size, as they seem to become victims of the plough more often than not. Those are three really sweet looking bronzes you got on this trip out, what a month you're both having.

Crusader, well done with your excellent site!
Do you have to report your finds to the local Portable Antiquities Scheme?

The Law doesn't require us to report any of the pictured items, unless we get any potential Treasure. (so in simple terms No) Treasure we always report. The FLO (who I know well) doesn't have time for the work load that we would produce, not that it matters because we GPS everything & keep detailed records. I'm also trained to record the items directly onto the PAS myself, when I feel the need. The other thing to consider is that not all Landowners want you to share that info with the PAS. We honour the owners wishes, as long as those wishes are Legal.

You're on an incredible streak Cru. I'd be estatic to dig just one Roman, but unfortunately that won't be happening over here.
