Foggy (could only see about 40 yards)for most of the day but it stayed above freezing so not that bad really.
We are gridding a very long run at the back of the site heading away from the main scatter. Our strategy, whilst we have time on our side, is to do the largest area grid we have ever done into no-mans land. The hope is that although the finds will peter out we will eventually get to virgin ground that may just hold that 1 good find. In the meantime if we get low yields or days as good as this, it's all been worth it.
Managed another 4 hours 45 mins:

6 Roman Coins - 1 Album Coin of Maximinus II AD305-313, we only have 2 others of this Emperor & this is our FIRST London Mint. Rev: GENIO POP ROM
Tudor Spec Buckle
Hunts Button with running Dog
An odd Whatzit that we only get in this field. Its a bit like a saw medallion with the following on one 'button' (can't read other side) - BERN Z+G(in middle) Lanenthal & ?M? - Something made in Switzerland?
1st C AD Fibula (Brooch)
2 Fibula Catchplate bits
2 Roman Bracelet Bits...

Nice!!!!! Congrats!!!!!!

Awesome hunt

Nice recoveries, congrats!
Btw, Langenthal is a town in the canton of Bern, Switzerland. I don't know more than that.
Cheers

I'm always amazed about the amount of Fibula/Brooches in your fields.... :icon_thumleft:

More in this field than most.
Some could be for melting down.
These one's though are kind of in the backyard area behind the metal working area. Spread out a bit & mostly 1st C types. We hope to get another Celtic Coin if we do a bigger enough area, but if not a Hammered is far more likely. (although not that common here)

Couple of real nice keepers from the hunt.
4.5 hrs now that's pretty good stretch, must be healing up-or being extra stubborn.
Trying to get a sense on when you say no-man's land-how many acres is the field site on?
Then again I have seen the Celtic gold pop up in a no-man's land before, 45 minute between target type ground.

It might still need an Op to take the metalwork out but I can't get hold of anyone in the Hospital or Physio to talk to. In the meantime I've halted hardcore Physio & taken it careful whilst detecting.

It's a massive field, probably the biggest field we do. But the no-mans land we want to cover is probably another 20 acres or so.

Yes, that is the hope, but a few brooches & the odd Hammered is worth the risk.
