.......That's the question we need to answer.
Firstly Cru'Dad scouted out another field yesterday for 2 hours & found only a sixpence & a Hunts Button.
Today we started on a new farm permission, but after trying 4 dead fields with only 1 button each it was time to move.
Once again due to a whole field failure of oil-seed rape we had an OK option. (although we have hammered it & it needs a deep plough) This field I thought must have been a Roman Hotel/Pub because of the dice we find along with a high ratio of silver coins. After speaking with our Archie contact & showing him our GPS plots & pottery finds, he got excited. Stating he couldn't have none a much better job himself & he thinks its Roman Mansio. It is by a main Roman Road & was probably used by soldiers & officials as a rest place whilst journeying.
Next week the Archies are planning a Geophysical Survey which we will help with, then based on that & our evidence they are looking to bid for Β£60,000-Β£90,000's of lottery grant to do a proper dig.
5 Hour Hunt.

1933 Sixpence

Celtic bronze unit further confirms the early occupation of this site in the late Iron Age, 50BC -43AD, prior to later use as a possible Mansio, which may consist of two to four buildings.
We shall know more, as you say, after the geophys next week. The failed rape crop will be replanted with beans in march, so another chance for a further look once rolled.

Awesome finds so far and oh the potential! :notworthy: Good Luck with this site!

That's the plan, I hope its a deep turn!

Very nice Cru. The Celtic Bronze is a real looker. I think it's great that you're both having fun and helping the Archies.

Mansio sounds good although there are differences. Hopefully you have one of the bigger ones with not only the Mansio but a Beneficarii station too. That will take it to another level. Good luck!

Must be exciting when i look at yours coins Cong

Very rough & ready, we get these white/cream ones & red tile ones. So it probably had a red boarder. We have no Villa's in our area, as its part of the Imperial Estate, so a Govt. building in our area is High Status, compared to the usual Homesteads we hunt.
