After being sick for the first time this year at the beginning of this week, I was looking forward to getting out in the fresh air. Lovely cool day today, the rain was less than predicted.:weather_sun: But so was our Roman finds.:laughing7: We only had to prove the limits of the South side to complete the site, & ended up with no Roman Coins. At least now we know the full extent of this new (to us) Roman Site. Cru'Dad had scouted (the other day) the next field along & had plucked out 2 Scrappies in 2 hours, so after lunch we gridded that area. Once again without success. Tried a mixture of scouting & gridding the rest of the field & came to the conclusion those 2 coins where random & we can cross this one off the list.
We need a change of strategy for our next hunt.

2 Scrappies (from the other day)
Medieval Purse Bar Bit
Nice Late Medieval Thimble
1944 Florin
Ed II Circa 1300 Farthing

Still a "Cru" day! Congrats. -Lisa & John

With the thimble a hammered + a nice modern silver the time was well spend i think!

What a Big coins!!

I love that on a "bad" day you still pull a coin from the 14th century. Thanks as always for sharing.

I agree, I was pleased with the thimble & those large silvers hardly ever turn up.

We don't generally use the 'b' word, we were just slightly disappointed due to our higher expectations. Our pre-detecting predictions nowadays are normally pretty close (due to years of statistical analysis) or way off because we have a better day. We are no so used to it going the other way. For Cru'Dad to scout a huge field & pick out 2 large scrappies in a small area & then for that area to have nothing else around it is nearly unheard of (in Roman terms). We went from thinking the next field would give us at least another 4-5 days hunting to 0.

your posts never dissapoint! good job!

Very nice hunt, congratulations!

The reverse of the two shilling is in great shape and a hammered to boot!

Yeap the nice designs (this one in good shape) of our coins is one reason I started collecting as a kid.
