We started the morning hunt at the Roman Lion Site. My strategy for this site was NOT to do the most productive end where all the Silver come out but to do the least productive end. This was in the hope that there would be more around as we have gridded it the least & not done it since the last deep plough. This was working out OK, as we had 13 Roman Coins & a Roman Pin Head in 1.5 hours. However Land-Mag (thanks) had given us a call that the Iron Age/Roman Site we had named Hill Top View was ready to hunt & had had an 8 inch turn.
For us it was a no brainer to run from an almost 10 coin an hour field, as the other Site we had only started last year.
When we got there it was more like a 4-5 inch turn, so not as great as we hoped, but worth gridding. We gridded this site for 3.5 hours & beat the worst of the rain, getting 22 Roman Bronzes, 1 broken debased Silver, 2 Roman Hob-Nails, Roman Bracelet bit, & a Roman Military Buckle (Dolphin type).
The debased Roman silver took us to 9 this month, a new monthly record.
