We started the morning gridding the freshly planted (very late Spring Beans) Roman Lion Site. We have gridded this one & the other over the Winter whilst it was an ankle breaker, so we are now on the mop up phase. Problem was the chemical sprayer turned up in the field next door at the same time, so we knew it was a race until they did this one. (which was next). We had 1 hour 50 minutes before we had to leave & managed 1 Roman Brooch (broken) & 14 scrappies; pretty good.

We then moved to the Roman Metal Working Site where we found them drilling the edge, so that's where we started. We were working pretty quick as we soon ran out of space. He had much longer runs than us! The pace of coins had slowed here to 12 in 4 hours 10 minutes. With 1 leather decor, Roman enameled thingy & 2 buttons.

26 Scrappies in 6 hours works for us, hopefully its a numbers game until the next good find.

Good start on the metal working site. !!:occasion14:

Is that a cut or a broken coin

Not really, it was the other way around. It had less coins & small lead, although we picked up lots of metal working bits, not pictured.

Congratualtions on the nice hunt! :occasion14:

Thanks I do realise this, I'm not jaded yet. Although our expectations are much higher than when I started or just over 10 years ago when we started upping our game.

Nice finds! I like how you call them 'Scrappies' but if you would've found one metal detecting in Sweden it would've been like a dream coin almost :D

Still not a bad day on this heavily hunted site. How many times have you detected there now? I remember a lot of great posts from this site. :icon_thumleft:

You always find stuff worth posting.
Keep em coming

Some people think that because we call them Scrappies, its a negative term for them. Most in the UK call them 'Grots', so not only do I like my word better, but we measure our success via our hourly rate of these. Cru'dad still takes all of there measurements & GPS's on his database so they are important to us.

If you mean the Metal Working Site, I'm not sure how many times we have gridded it, but I guess about 10. Last year was the deepest plough we have seen on the site, at nearly 9 inches. So we hoped it popped up another Gold Celtic. We will not get time to grid it all before the beans show, so it will have to wait.
