Roman Coin? Odd Find

I was cleaning a pile of Spanish silver cobs and discovered this little bugger in with the lot.

I'm guessing Roman with the big SC.

What do you say?

Do a search under S C Roman coins.

Mint marks such as S C (Senatus Consulto) which means "by decree of the Senate

looks silver, might be a roman senate issued coin which means no older than 100bc as thats when SC started appearing on roman coins. the thickness of the coin and roughness of edge seems like a sand cast flan or planchet. coins made in alexandria used a flan like this but with such little detail, its hard to figure out whos on it.

Isn't it annoying when those roman coins slip in with the Spanish Cobs. Drives me nuts. Jusy kidding. Nice looking coin whatever it is.

That is a 1st Century A.D. Bronze or AE Quadrans.It is of Claudius (Struck 41-54 A.D.). These issues are rather scarce.

Good to be back... I've been quite busy lately.

Ancient Coin Forum? Heck no. I was banned from there well over a year ago. I think the site owner is a rockhead and I am not one to promote censorship. But anyway....I love this forum!!! The people here are genuinely cool and don't act like there is a stick up their butts all of the time.

I agree with you 100%. I never got banned from there but I was very close to it. I know all about that site and you won't catch me anywhere near it today. Nuff said.

The coin came in a bag with purchased coins from Spain. I was buying shipwreck and dug cobs. It was a surprize to find it.
