Metal Detecting
I found 4 strange rocks recently on my vacation to the Outer Banks of NC. They have no metal content, the detector is quiet even on all metal setting. I have no clue as to what they are, and I was hoping someone could help me. At first i thought meteorite, but when i got them home & cleaned up better and found they were non metallic I knew they weren't.

Can you get those pics on a white background in natural light?

They simply look painted... I have no idea...

They just look kinda like ordinary rocks. :dontknow: What was it about them that made them stick out from the rest of the surrounding rocks? Could they have come from a freshwater creek or river that dumped into the ocean near where you found them? Mother nature can do some pretty amazing things.

If you do take more pics, please throw in an article to show scale.
Along with the weight, the size might help with an ID.

The rainbow effect in one of the 'stones', might indicate a piece of coal or possibly an old hardened globule of a ship's oil discharge. That could also explain the 'sticking sand'.
