The first one looks like Jade. Jade is indeed present in WY. The third looks like an igneous rock of some sort. Do you sell or trade rocks? It appears you’ve opened these rocks with a saw? Do you do lapidary work?

Hey guys and gals, my wife and I started doing a little rock hounding at our place in central WY and found all kinds of strange stuff we can't seem to identify, any help is greatly appreciated! Here's the first: A nail won't scratch it, dry weight is 322g, wet is 96g, SD: 3.35. It appears to be opaque and non-magnetic.
I’m not understanding the weight. It is lighter weight wet than dry? Why would it be heavier when dry? Thanks

Jade is what I was hoping for, but density range for Nephrite is 2.9-3.02, and I've never heard of Jadeite in Wyo, which is why I'm stumped. It's hard to see in the pics, but the surface of the third rock looks like particle board. It's too hard to be Serpentinite, and too dense to be Serpentine, if that helps. I'm just an amateur with a $70 tile saw getting learned up for some projects with my grandson. 🙂

A couple more: The first two pics(same rock) hasn't been cut yet, but has a Nephrite type weathering rind and is 2.82 SD, a little low for Nephrite. 3rd pic is not cut or weighed, but displayed a little lighter apple green color on a break. 4th and 5th pics(same rock) was cut, but not weighed yet, in the 5th, you can kind of see the particle board texture on the rind. I know my phone camera is crappy, sorry. This is all float material, and half of all the rock on our property is some sort of green. We also have tons of what we think is Quartz, Pyrite, and different types of Mica. Thanks for any help folks!!!

I don't know how much truth there is to it, but I've read that Nephrite Jade is just super heated and pressurized Serpentine, which accounts for the varying grades of Nephrite one can find???
