Detector(s) used
F75LTD / Tejon
I found this piece a long time ago when I got my first detector. The first time I ever used my first detector I headed to the beach on the Texas coast. I got a signal which turned out to be a spent .22 bullet. I looked in the hole and found this. As you can see it is a teardrop shaped rock with a hole in the top. My guess is a Native American fishing weight, but that is just a guess. Anyone else have any ideas?

It is made from rock which is black in color with gold flake in it....enjoy.

Can't really tell from the pictures but it doesn't appear to be worked to get it into that symmetrical shape. A clearer picture with more detail would help. Also a side view. If it is a chip, it has a characteristic shape.

Interesting, the shape seems almost to perfect to be hand made.
could it have been cast? is it like a hard single stone material or conglomerate....
So many questions.....Interesting.....

I'll take some better pictures and post them on Monday. When I found it, it looked like a conventional lead fishing weight. When I washed it off and discovered it was made of stone and had a hole in the top, I knew it was something worth hanging on to. My guess is that it was a fishing weight or used for measure depth, etc. More pictures to come on Monday.

Find simular rocks around lakes, streams and rivers. From the look of the hole, you have a hand made fishing weight.

We used to find those on the Savannah River around the old Indian fish traps before the river was dammed. Tony
