Found this with my detector..Reading 92 on the vdi.
If you wire wheel it it turns to gold, dark gold or maybe its brass but it looks like gold.
Extremely heavy for a small rock..Gold this size would read that on my detector..
Now here is the strange part..I spilled peroxide on it a little bit and it turned that purple color..
This is a strange piece..

i tried the meteor forum not much came about it?

Do any of the pictures show a freshly broken surface?

I see in the second picture a goldish colour - Can you scratch it with your fingernail?

Ok so i hit the edge with a grinding wheel and it is that solid gold color in the entire middle.
It appears to be crystal/rock like only on the outer surface :dontknow:

Can you scratch it with your nail?

The new pics are better -- Chalcopyrite would be my first guess.

Let me know the results of the above test, we need to limit the choices.

You may have stumbled onto a copper/gold deposit. :o
Turns out Rhode Island is known for copper, gold and iron deposits.
Do you own the property?
You may want to look into getting the mineral rights. :icon_thumleft:
At least see how abundant the ore is in the area where your sample was found. Got any geologist friends or relatives?
Careful not to "spill the beans"

Ok, likely some form of copper sulphide.

To confirm this:
x It should be soft enough to be scratched by a knife.
x Rubbing it against a unglazed piece of porcelain it should produce a greyish black colour. Or similar.

As the others pointed out, this could be a mineral deposit worth mining. Look for the source.

Looks like a copper nugget to me find alot of these in michigan they are odd shaped heavy and by the green copper oxide in one of the pics is common nice find here and now native copper or float copper is going for 3.50 a pound. I found that sulfamic acid cleans them up nice takes all the JUNK out of them and leaves the copper. I have a big piece soaking now.
CAUTION: it is very corosive use with CARE

Attn: Johnnyblaze: while it may be golden colored, it definately is not gold. You state it is heavy. Copper is also golden in color, and this could be a copper nugget, at least in your area. Seems like a pretty large piece of copper, but it is still a possibility.

Looks like a piece of pyrite & quartz. I have a few pieces that are similar. Heavy, crystals throughout, gold color when polished and will turn color if it has any copper sulfate - like peacock pyrite.
