found this in a field in NC it rang up as silver very loud. it is about 2"long and 1 1/4 " wide
by 1"it is not magnetic at all. very heavy for a rock. sent it to my sons company, and the lab says it is mostly manganese, very little iron some cobalt, little silica. some nickle, When I found it it was covered in black soot.

almost looks like anthracite (coal variety)but the chemistry doesn't match what the lab gave you. As a rockhound it's a pretty sweet find.

Well, if it is manganese and if you strike it it against some steel you got yourself a fire-starter. Most interesting!
