I was recently given a box full of different rocks, however some of them were labeled and others the labels had fallen off or were nonexistent. *I've been able to identify most of them but this one has me stumped. (Amateur hour at my house) My guess is hematite since it has that blackish red color, same color on streak test. but the largest has what looks like a vein of a different material and it (silver? It had silver ore label on it but might have been from another rock that fell off and stuck to this one) both also have what looks like red jasper which makes me think it's not silver but there is a spot of quartz on the larger one so silver might be possible.

Thanks

Also check for magnetism. Just do be sure. Streak test would indicate hematite indeed. Hematite is non magnetic.

If it is magnetic it's very minimal and not all hematite is magnetic. Anyone know what color silver streaks?

Hematite isn't magnetic at all. (look again above)
Don't understand your last question.

Hematite is iron ore... That looks like silver ore just as it's labeled

Natural hematite does have a very minimal magnetic charge, my magnet doesn't stick to this specimin, but it'd b very rare if it is hematite and it did stick. What I'm guessing the host rock is. The vein running thru it might be silver, not sure what color it should show if I did a streak test

If hematite is magnetic that is due to traces of magnetite. (pure) Silver leaves a silvery streak.
Just do a streak test on both the matrix and the veins and see. :)
