Gray and greasy rock pocket 008.JPGThis rock weighs about 100 lbs I have been busting today and got a big piece off and when I looked at it there was a pocket of gray spongy stuff in there looked full of crystals with little gold crystals mixed in the gray crystal looking stuff. This stuff is really soft and greasy.Leaves what ever I touch it with greasy. Haven't seen this before and hope someone on here might know what it is. Gonna try to post a picture of it if I can. Well cant post a picture says file is too large and its only 3.35 mb and I thought we were in range under 5.mb per photo.Still need info if anyone knows what it might be. Finally got the picture posted and didn't turn out too good but maybe an idea. Circled the soft oily greasy minerals I was talking about.

loco. Here are some pictures of more rocks I found and of the branch I was talking about. Rock is under tree roots looks great but more Muscovite I think, but plenty of that.

are you sure it's not clay? When I dig crystals in Arkansas, the best ones come out of the red , greasy clay.

The bottom four photos looks to be milky quartz. If that's true I would pan that stream for gold.

thanks Brian, I have panned some but found nothing but iron pyrite, but I am not very good at that anyway. I am not sure the rock is quartz as this breaks apart so easy and is crackley and under black light looks purple. Some of the rocks have large clear glassy spots in them. Clear as diamonds looks like diamond but beautiful. Wish it were but it can't be. LOL.

looks very promising, i ve done a ton of research for your area ,and was amazed at the historical gold mines and deposits ,i believe the closest to you is the woodlawn mine, but there was three right there clustered around it, the(betty baker mine) just north of wood lawn, the line berry mine just north of galax,on (crooked creek)then, on the other side ,to the east, in floyd co. there was mines on brush creek, exstensive placer mines, luarel creek, extensive placers on it and its tributarys, along southeast side of luarel ridge, and the reports on what was observed at these locations, dark gray to greenishish grey, ultra maficics, that were micaious, and chloritic, and stained with limonite, the tiny cubic crystals oxidised ,proved to be pyritic altered .

Mamabear where do you go crystal hunting in Arkansas? We go to both Coleman mines. I love finding the "peanut butter " clay balls cause there are almost always beautiful clear points in it!
