It looks to me to be from smelting copper?
There are a lot of small pieces of the green shiney rock/glass (slag?) in that area.
Also, the downed limbs and twigs of the area have soaked up a greenish tint. I think there is a high copper content in the soil.
From what I've read, Native Americans did not smelt copper, but early Europeans did.
None of my maps show anything in this area at all. Maybe there is a colonial copper mine nearby.

I originally though obsidian, but there isn't any in this area.
Here are some more photos. The thing is shiney so it is hard not to get a shot with light reflecting.

It could be obsidian since it was used as a trade good by the Indians. That could explain how it got over to your area. They could get quite a few points out of a piece like that. Try a photo with the object in the sunlight without the cameras flash. Move the camera a bit farther back to get a better focus and crop the image. That would give a nice close-up.

I'll take some more shots tomorrow as well as photos of pottery fragments found nearby.

Also some bits of pottery found in a snow runoff stream. You can see some glazing on the pottery.
