Hello,
Today, I found something very strange. I happened to be out looking for fossils near Murphy, Idaho. I discovered a rock that had many holes in it and many black rocks inside it. When I got home, I broke off one of the black rocks. The interesting thing about this, was that the rock would not break no matter what I did. I could only break off a tiny piece of it.
Just for a laugh, I decided to bring out one of my powerful magnets. To my surprise, the rocks that chipped off stuck to the magnet. There is metal in these rocks.
I am scratching my head big time. I have no idea what this is. It will not break, no matter how hard I hit it with a sledgehammer, The rocks have metal in them, and they are attracted to a magnet, and that's about it.
A picture is attached.
I am really scratching my head. Could someone help me figure out what these rocks are?
Jared
