Road Trip Last Friday Yields Almost Nothing

Well. I had quit ordering my weekly box last week. Turkey Day happens, and that means I actually get a day off during the week when the vault tellers are all working (Friday).

So I figured I would take a slow drive and stop at all the banks I saw. Followed one street that has an average of 2-3 banks per mile for about 10 miles or so.

From about 20-25 banks, I went through about $300 in halves, loose and rolled. Found 4 40% halves.

Decided to call it a day. Drove back home through a small town, decided to stop in a bank where they always have halves. Lady said she had a full Brinks box. All Brinks rolls I had ever got from there were skunks so I did not have much hope for anything different.

Seems I was correct. Skunk box.

So I got 4 40% halves from about 800 bucks.

And of course I come here to this forum today, and see tons of stories about fantastical dream boxes.

*sigh*

That's just my luck I suppose.

Last time I did a road trip was the exact same route, and I came away with a lot of keepers.

Better luck next time. At least I found a little silver. Coulda been worse! ;D

Don't feel too depressed when you read the great stories here, although it is a bit disheartening to see them when your own finds are somewhat slim. For every great score there are dozens of skunks. Some of the super gigantic scores are once in a lifetime finds (unless of course a person spends every day searching a dozen boxes at a time). Every now and then someone is going to dump a coin collection that belonged to someone they knew without knowing the value and a lucky CRHer is going to find it, unless of course the bank tellers get it first. I am always glad to see these super CRHer scores because it shows that there is still silver out there finding its way into the system and it is nice to see a fellow CRHer here make the great find.

If your Brinks boxes are always skunks then you gotta be getting someones dumps. Even my crappy boxes here will often have one or two keepers that find there way into the system. Try a bank that uses a different coin courier if possible.

Look on the bright side, atleast you got 4 keepers for your troubles.

Jim is right... a lot of people only post their good finds here and not their bad ones or their skunks. I like the people that post everything, which is becoming rarer and rarer apparently, because it shows you the finds to skunks ratio a lot better.

Once I get back into the hobby in another month or two, I will start posting the results of EVERY box and such like I used to. It helps the posted too because it gives me something to go back to for my records. =)

Guilty!
I promise starting Jan 1st I will start posting all of my finds again.

Happy Hunting! ::)

Hang in there MF......we have all had days like that. Days like yours is more common than the big hits. Good luck on the next search.

As you probably guessed...I post everything...

You bet you do!

You are one of those OCD people that chart and graph and plot and mark EVERY coin you go through =)

But we love you for it!
