I hit the road again this past Friday. I ended up visiting 12 different towns in search of halves and "big" dollars. Didn't find a single Ike.

Town 1 (1 bank): $2 loose yielded 1 '64 Ken. Great start!

Town 2 (2 banks): #1 - $10 handroll (skunk). #2 - $10 handroll (skunk).

Town 3 (3 banks): #1 - none. #2 - $2 loose, $20 handrolled (skunk). #3 - 1 lone clad half

Town 4 (8 banks): #1 - 1 half (skunk). #2 - $3 loose (skunk). #3 - none. #4 - none. #5 - none. #6 - none. #7 - $20 handrolled, $4.50 loose (skunk) #8 - none

Town 5 (2 banks): #1 - $2 loose (skunk). #2 - $10.50 loose (skunk)

Town 6 (1 bank): $1 loose (skunk)

Town 7 (1 bank): $8.50 loose (skunk)

Town 8 (3 banks): #1 - $1.50 (skunk). #2 - none. #3 - $1.50 (skunk)

Getting pretty dejected at this point.

Town 9 (17 banks): #1 - none. #2 - $51 loose (4 40%ers - FINALLY). #3 - $3.50 (skunk). #4 - $80 handrolled, $5.50 loose (skunk). #5 - none. #6 - $5.50 (skunk). #7 - none. #8 - 1 clad half. #9 - $80 handrolled (4 40%, 1 '64 Ken). #10 - none. #11 - none. #12 - none. #13 - 1 clad half. #14 - 1 clad half. #15 - none. #16 - $340 machine rolled, $130 handrolled, $1.50 loose. THE STOP THAT SAVED THE DAY *See below. #17 - none.

Town 10 (1 bank): $3.50 (skunk)

Town 11 (4 banks): #1 - $30 handrolled (skunk). #2 - $220 handrolled, $4.50 loose (5 40%). #3 - $40 handrolled, $2 loose (skunk). #4 - $9 (skunk)

Town 12 (2 banks): #1 - $2.50 (skunk). #2 - none

* I walk into the bank and there are 2 tellers. I walk up asking for halves and big dollars. The teller hands me 3 clad halves. I ask if they have any stashed in the vault. She replies, 'No, I don't think so." The other teller speaks up and says, "I think we do. Let me check." She gets on the phone and informs me they have $470. I take them all. $340 machine rolled and $130 handrolled. Time is running short, so I toss 'em in the truck and I'm off down the road. I finally get home (left home at 7:45 am, got home at 5:45 pm) pretty tired and disappointed. So far I have 13 40% and 2 90%. I half-heartedly start with the machine rolls which produced 1 40%. The first handroll is a skunk. At this point I'm not expecting anything, but when I dump the 2nd roll into my hand, I hear that sweet "clink" of silver. I'm shocked to see 7 40%ers in my hand. Roll 3 produced 9 more. In fact every remaining roll produced, with the best containing 11 silver and a '74 DDO. Final take from the handrolls was 78 40% and 4 '64 Kens. If that other teller hadn't spoken up, I would have missed them all!

FINAL TOTALS: 12 towns, 240 miles driven. $1107.50 searched: 92 40%, 6 90%, and a '74 DDO. Streak is at 9!

Correction-- If you hadnt spoken up and asked to check the vault you would have missed them.

Arkie,
Road trips can be tough, but I always find that in the long run you will score.
Great post, thanks!

That too, but it was pretty obvious "my" teller certainly was NOT going to check the vault.

Wow, this could be the most hard core CRH mission I have seem to this day. I bet finding all that silver made you feel better about spending all that gas money, that couldn't have been cheap!

So was it worth it this time? ~$325 worth of silver.

Congrats!

I see road trip #4 is coming, am I right?

North, West, South, then East.

Nice score and well written. I really enjoy roadtrips, and the ones that produce are even better.

Very insightful Yinzi. :icon_thumleft:

Kindest regards,

Nice haul. I love road trips, can be tiresome, but it is certainly is worth the effort. Seems no one goes home empty handed.
