I think the river gave up my first gold find.
Originally when I dug it out of the thick black muddy river bed, it looked like 1/2 of those Chinese coins made into a necklace. It was black.
Thinking it was some kind of copper alloy, when I got home I put it in my peroxide/lemon juice mix for about an hour. Taking it out I put salt on it and rubbed on it. The black came off easy exposing a bright gold.
I thought this crud is coming off too easy.
I noticed the word MIZPA and knew it was a mizpah coin. I cleaned all the black off on both sides and this this just shined gold.
No marking though but it sure looks gold. Definitely not plated.
What do you think?
I have no means of testing it though off hand.

Here are a couple pictures.

is it heavy? could be brass, but if it cleaned up that easy probly gold, bring it to a pawn shop or jeweler and see for sure. or test kits on ebay for like 20 bucks. congrats cool find

It does have weight to it. The picture doesn't do it justice. It is not brass. The color is a yellow gold. Thanks

Impossible from a picture to tell. I am sure there are jewelry stores close to you. ALL should test it for free. It does look promising though.

Seems like if it was plated it would have worn through on a few edges being in the river. I think it is real from looking at it. :dontknow:

The un-soldered jump ring is suspicious. Gold and silver usually has the rings soldered shut. I am not saying it's not gold, because I hope it is. I guess you have to get it tested to know for certain. Nice recovery either way. I know from personal experience how hard it is to find stuff in rivers, with the current, low visibility, etc.

Lovin it thanks for sharing!!!!

I ordered a gold test kit from eBay. It did pass the magnetic test (non-magnetic) and the ceramic scratch test (scratched gold not black). The truth is on its way.
