Ripped off. Didn't ask prices first...

Pretty annoying. My yard was inexplicably closed this momrning, so went to the next nearest. Called to see if they took in cans, but didn't ask their price. Showed up with 12 clear leaf bags of cans, some crushed, and 81 lbs of cast alluminum plates, adn some alluminum material they rated as mixed low copper - 63 lbs worth.
Instead of .65 per, for 75 lbs of cans, which the other yard gave me a little while back, they handed me an invoice for dirty alluminum, at .20 cents per pound. And .65 and .75 for the other material.
I could either take $114.00 for the load, or load it all up and take it all home again, which I couldn't even actually do, because a freind helped me haul half the load in his pickup truck, and he just dropped it and left.
Shabby little lesson learned there.

Yeah, if ya read my earlier posts we sure as hell don't owe scrap yards any favours. Also a few calls to play one off agin de other helps. Why havn't you told us the name of these crooks. Name and Shame I say.

Al cans are hard to store but the bulkier Al I come across I'm hoarding as Al price is allready about $1 / Lb and set to rise due to high cost of electricity and Power set to be constantly rising.

Well, the guy (in Toronto) who paid me .65 was High Park Metals, and the guy who gave me .20 was Canada Scrap Iron. I have the receipts, so naming names isn't a problem. I'll call the High Park guy on Monday and ask him what he would have paid for cast AL as a comparisson.

Live and learn, I guess, but a caution to other newbies.

Heh.

In a perfect world, maybe this guy will call my company someday for a service call, and we'll see if my normal service rates are affected.

Yeah, what goes around comes around; or There's KARMA in dem scraps.
Anyway couldn't find "Canada Scrap Iron " in the Canadian White Pages also maybe he specialised in ferrous as his name suggests, hence de low dosh.

Checked the receipt, and its actually Canada Iron and Metal, 3534 Dundas St West, Toronto. (I only drive by the place no less than TWICE every single working day, so I figured my memory would serve as to the name of the place, but evidently not.)
Sorry about that.
High Park Scrap Metals, 262 MAcdonnell, Toronto, is the name of the guy who gave me the good rate.
