Here's some of the highlights of the past four days. Work slowed down a bit so I went fishing. =)

I love finding foreign coins for some reason. They're worthless in monitary value but I always welcome something different from the norm.

Pictured is a 5 Kurus coin from Turkey. A 1 Pesta coin from Spain and a 10 Peso coin from Mexico. Also 3 newer tokens.

I don't find many silver coins in parks and tot lots but I ran across a 1952 dime.

Also pictured is ring 89 which is another small gold band which is gold ring 18 of the year.
Then there's the 4th CTR ring I've found which is silver. Number 90.

I gave up on trying for 200 rings on the year in about April. I got tired and I honestly got bored for the first time in years. But I'm back!

Getting bored is the one sign I'm careful to watch for nowadays. When the joy of finding goes cold, it's just not worth much to go anymore. I know, I hung it up for 20 years once.

I'm glad to see the fire has come back into your eye. Just be careful it doesn't bun you out.

Now, I refuse to go anywhere to hunt UNLESS, I want to go. If it starts to feel like I'm just "late for work", then something's wrong.
One of the signs is pulling something like a ring, a silver coin, large copper and although you're happy. There's just no celebration. No, I don't mean climbing trees and turning flips. It's just sort of, yay, put it in the pouch, move on.

Trying to set goals for finding is a catch 22 too. You're finding good stuff but deep down you know it isn't fast enough to reach the goal. So, you feel like "yay", but you say poop! All of a sudden, your relaxing hobby is causing stress.

When I really don't feel like going, I wait, until I do.

You have some great finds there, enjoy them!

HH!

Freaking awesome! I'll get excited for you...i only get to see these great finds cuz y'all post them...i dont get alot of time to go due to my demanding schedule so I live vicariously through you....thanks!

You got 18 gold rings for the year?, that is remarkable and plenty achievement. Why try for a goal that is just a number rather than having fun as a goal and finding really kewl stuff.

Excellent hunt, great half year. HH

Hi Claire,
You're in the same boat I was 4 years ago. I found 19 rings that year and I was ecstatic. I thought I was doing great!
Then January rolled around and I started going every day. I wound up with 11 rings at the end of the month. I couldn't believe it! Well I'll shorten the story. I wound up with 109 rings. =)
Then the next year 144.
So this year I had 40 around March 1st so I figured why not 200?
The only problem is I'm hunting the same areas over n over again and things are getting hard to find. Good places to go don't come around often. When I find a new place it's either fenced off or I get kicked out.
I'm starting to hate electric carts. lol

Good luck on finding more rings!

Thanks Mariposa!

You're right. I do seem to have a one track mind when it comes to detecting. But I've always been a person who likes to beat his personal records. I found 29 last year so 30's the goal.

I'm hoping to find a detector which likes gold chains then I'll change my focus.

I only have a couple of gold chains. One I saw laying there and one had a ring attached to it. I can only imagine how many are out there because peoples detectors don't hear them. I bet I've skipped over dozens.
I can't hear the chain without the ring on it. Neither can any of my buddies. It's not a small chain either.

I could never get bored of digging silver and gold . I'm glad to see your back at it . Your right about the gold chains , they are hard to find . The only two I have found in 16 years were both on the surface and I saw them but the MXT didn't ! My hunting buddy eagleforce found one last year with his MXT and it came up as a +4 , +2 VDI . Hope you find your 30 gold this year !

My favorite foreign coin I have found so far is this 1995 Vatican City 100 Lire Prisoners Coin. Found in a Tot Lot near a church. Yet to find a gold ring...but only been at it for going on 2 months now. Ever vigilant !!IMG_0944.JPGIMG_0945.JPG

I can understand the nature of your quest, Now anyway. I've searched for the gold chain to a pendant I found a few months ago, to no avail. Maybe with Glen's VDI for the MXT, i'll try again this weekend. I've found silver Chains, but not a single gold chain. Apparently they are more elusive than I thought.

The setting of Goals is good, but I don't want goals to make this more of chore than a hobby. My goal this year was to find double what I did last year, but at bare minimum, find enough to pay for my new machine. I'm not anywhere close to last years numbers, but then I've started hunting more vacant lots and less schools and parks. My finds have changed from Mostly Clad and occasional silver or gold jewelry to Relics and older coins. My relic finds have been amazing and a tremendous amount of fun. But they don't have the value of Gold Jewelry. Schools and parks will make it back on my list soon enough. All in good time.

However, if you are competing with Glen for No. 1 Ring finder, I have only one statement, More Coffee, Less Sleep. Cuz Glen is a Machine LOL

My objective. Balanced Obsession. LOL.
