I would not think ring. More like an item that was attached to leather. The things sticking off of the back looks like they were studs that would go through the leather and would have been bent over a little.

seven stars -- colonial age item

Could it be a wax seal? :icon_sunny:

the design of it reminds me of early type of colonial button design -- seven stars for seven colonies * -- but the back design is off for that -- makes me go hummm :icon_scratch:

yep it does look like a colonial period harness decoration.

Thank you Breezie.
Colonial is always good. I am not understanding what piece or how it would have worked or looked like on a horse. :dontknow:

Even though this is a modern one, you still get the idea. Rosettes were mainly decorative do-dads to dress up horse tack. . . .here ya go:

Referred to as Sexfoils in the UK - A stylized flower or leaf with six lobes.

Clearly a flower (found many of these) which had two lugs on the reverse which held them on the leather. Could have mounted a belt on a person as well as horse decor.

Might well be 17th Century :icon_thumright:

Any chance it could be a cufflink? Looks way too small for a rosette. I have no idea how big a sexfoil would be... But it's the right size for a cufflink.

Best Wishes,

Agree it's too small to be a rosette, but right size for a harness boss shield/sexfoil. The prongs IMO appear to be for leather attachment.

I think CRUSADER got it, good ID and cool find Garabaldi :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumright:

Thats why I called it a Sexfoil or if you like Leather decoration. They came in all sizes & I have many smaller than this one.
