I have found maybe 6 of these ring things in the park last year and today this one and I don"t have any others to show. Some were smaller. They are made of brass.
This was a big party place in the 1890 to 1920's.
Maybe a sort of an engagement ring. A one night ring maybe. :laughing9:

Re: Ring or what are they ?

They remind me of the cheap ring decorations that would be used at a wedding. like a pair of plated rings adorning a gift or a cake.............NGE

Used for many different purposes, commonly harness rings, but as I say could be any number of reasons

The ring has a seam running around it. Looks like it was flat like a washer and pressed into a ring.

I have found a lot of them over the years, I always thought they were some kind of grommet.

could be rings off of spark plugs.
I have thought of that and I have seen old spark plugs and none of the washers looked like these.

They are thin and would not hold up on a tent.

They could be for spark plugs. Not for cars or tractors because I have seen old plugs. Maybe first chain saws or outboard motors. I just think they are for something else since I have found 6 or more in the wood at this park and different sizes.

I spent a couple hours looking at spark plug rings or spark plug gaskets, Model A spark plugs and I'm ready to say it's a spark plug gasket. I guess you could buy a box real cheap back then and probably carried them and plugs around to change them often. I'll mark this solved. Thanks all for the help. roger

The operative words are : "...6 or more in the woods in the park."
Which says to me that they're retaining rings from a canvas/Burlap sheet, probably used to make a tent for some kids! Several times as kids we used those things to build a makeshift tent for the night, and as they were useless for the job (or more likely ..we were!)we tended to leave them where they were. The canvas/burlap rots over the years, and the rings fall into the grass and soil.

That's my opinion anyhow. :)
