Need to ID the stamp inside this ring. It is as follows: A bird head and wing, in profile, facing right. bird has a crest, like a cardinal. On both sides of this is an arrow facing inward. Thanks for any help... Griz. P.S. Attn. Admin. - I sent this post in twice last night and it never made it to the forum, don't know where it went, G.

Any chance of getting a photo that shows it?

Most likely a maker's mark. If it is karat gold, that should be stamped inside. Even gold plated is normally stamped.

This is what I found.

"The most easily recognized and commonly seen French mark is the eagle’s head, in use since 1838, indicating 18 karat gold. Assayed French gold is never lower than 18k. The mark can be found on jewelry in any number of places. Look for it on clasps, side edges, galleries, and pin stems as well as on the back surface of a piece. '

SirLost....

Thanks for the link. This info leads me to believe that the eagle head, bracketed by the two arrows, signifys 18kt. gold clad, or plated. As you can see, the gold is worn off the outside of the ring... Griz.
