You are correct sir.....it is a marksman metal after qualifing on the rifle range. Don't know about the other services but we had these in the U.S.M.C. around 1973. I found a silver ring about 2 weeks ago with the same type stone in it, and just about the same size.
Recently I found a larger silver ring and it had a piece of malakyte in it, also spelled malachite.
Well I thought perhaps it was jade, but learned that malakyte is also used in silver jewelry. It's either one, i think, or it's something else. Who cares?
