Ring #29 - It Wasn't There 2 Weeks Ago
Hi all,
Well it's taken me a year and a half to cover as many different schools, parks, churches, private yards and sports fields as I could within about a 15-square mile radius, recovering nearly $1100 in change, more than 100 rings, and other forms of "treasure". I've been re-checking places I've been to numerous times and it's gotten to the point where I'm swinging the coil for an hour and barely finding anything.
With that being said, I did manage to get lucky at one wood chip playground today..when I pulled into the parking lot at a school I was at about 2 weeks ago, I asked myself "Why even bother?" But I checked anyway. All I found in the entire wood chip area was a penny.
Just as I was about to leave, I hit a solid signal near one of the play structures and dug this weird but silver-looking piece of metal that I thought was junk. It turned out to be a large Disney ring that had been stepped on.
Still thinking it was a piece of garbage, I took the ring home and straightened it out, first by bending it out with my fingers and then pulling it onto a ratchet socket in my tool box. When I pounded it back into shape with a rubber mallot I noticed how malleable the metal was and how easily it went back into shape without cracking or breaking..I knew I had been able to do that with silver rings in the past, so after I shined it up with some baking soda/water I got out the magnifyer..I was happy to see the word "sterling" inside the band.
Kind of a strange looking ring, but it's one BIG piece of silver!
