Got this ring at a garage sale for 50cents, couldn't pass it up! It fits my pinky perfectly. Any idea on what it's made of?

Abalone shell. That's all I know.

It's cool. It's carved out of shell. The best ones are carved like complex cameos or layered onyx or agate. With those the artist chooses which layers to express. Yours may be assembled like this one:
