✅ SOLVED RIMFIRE

Dug this short rimfire today. It is a 38 cal. being 3/8 of an inch in diameter, maybe a 22 IDK. No, i don't have calipers, I don't dig enough bullets to warrant getting one....but anyways, there is no headstamp at all and that is my whats it for this one. How old do you reckon it to be and who would have manufactured it? The site has had a mixed history of occupation dating back to the Civil War so the gap is wide .Thanks for lookin vn.

The front of the case looks curled, like it might have been a blank.

I found something very similar as yours yesterday. The front of the case is definitely not curled. I will try to get a post started on it tomorrow.

A .38 is really a 357/1000s of an inch.There is a .31 ELEY rimfire...theres a .32 rimfire...there a .34 rimfire...theres a .35 allen rimfire...theres a .41 short rimfire.You need calipers

Regardless,if youre dealing with cartridges,bullets,etc,you need calipers.

Calipers are pretty cheap, $25 Will provide a digital one that comes in handy for many other uses. Buttons, coins, home projects. Not used everyday but they come in handy figuring out things.

Not being a bullet guy, I would not have guessed it to be so technical. That being said, I have seen this same scenario played out in other's bullet/projectile posts, so I should know betterSo if this were a blank, as seems the concensus, was this for starting a race or scaring the wife or what purpose. I supose a time frame is even more of a stretch without a mark on it. My buddy dug a smaller caliber casing like this one on the same site, not from the same firearm and it too has no headstamp letter. Must have been a bunch of kids playin cops and robbers here,lol.

Well from looking around i'd say its a .41 rimfire derringer casing.Its too big to be a .38. .38s do not measure .375.
