Yesterday I decided to swing my detector for a little while in my yard. The heat has been so bad and I work in it every day that I didn’t want to travel far from my air conditioned house. It was built in the 1920s which is on the newer side for my area so I never had much hope. I’ve tried it a couple times in the past and haven’t found more than a couple wheat pennies. I’ve been thinking there has to be at least a mercury dime in there somewhere. So I picked a section of my front yard to swing that was right under a big oak tree. First good signal was a small buckle. The next good signal was something I’ve wanted to find for a while, my first colonial shoe buckle chape! I was very excited about this one! After searching some more for the missing pieces I went inside to show my wife and spent the rest of the afternoon in the AC. So today I went back to my shady spot under the tree and dug up a couple of more small buckles followed by a slick copper! It’s just a little bit bigger than a quarter and I can’t see any detail on it. I guess I need to spend more time digging my yard! Any help dating the small buckles would be appreciated! Good luck and happy hunting! (Having trouble posting pictures, I’ll try to add them in the comments)

Your 1920s house has 1600s dirt.... as does your neighbors.
You need to keep beating the snot out of that Lower Cape Honey hole

Nice finds, congratulations! :icon_thumleft:

Way to go, thanks for sharing your finds. Always nice when there's some history in your very own yard!

Congrats on the nice relics. Sometimes your own yard is a great place to start. The dirt has been there forever !

Congrats on your yard finds. That's great.

You can get some goods from your lawn. Nice buckles and slick copper!

I don't know for sure but just by looking at them, my intuition tells me the small buckles are not as old as your shoe buckle piece. I could be wrong.

The coin and shoe buckle chape are a great sign that there might be some more old goodies there, maybe even some early silver!!

Great finds

Nice saves! Keep pounding that yard there be silver there YARRGGHHH :skullflag:

Man i wish i had those types of finds in my yard! The only thing I've ever found at my house was some clad coins and tools that I've lost over the years. I would be hitting it hard every day if i found any of those relics.

Ya I agree, they don’t look as old as the shoe buckle piece. Probably more like late 1800s to early 1900s?

I’ve tried it in the past a couple of times and wasn’t very successful, these finds have sparked a new fire though!
