I found this today at the old colonial site and have never seen a shell casing with 2 firing pin marks. I don't know if it was from a pistol or rifle. Any ideas?? Thanks Ron

The only one I can think of offhand that was a double strike on a rimfire was possibly the Henry.

Could you be a little more specific. Henry......... pistol or rifle? Thanks for your help

yep henry rifle --one of the earlist relible repeating lever action rifles -- it was 44 caland held 14 rounds and had the double strike firing pins and used rimfire type shells --the dual strike was to make sure no misfires occured.

That case is bottlenecked and I believe it is what was called here in America a .41 Swiss rifle cartridge. It was at one time the military round used by the Swiss in the Vetterli rifle which had the double firing pin as you show.

the "c" headstamp ---- creedmoor cartridge co, ,barberton,oh made many 44 cal rifle rounds --44 - 100 (2 5/8 long) and 44 - 77 to name a few -- creedmore is famous for the remington creedmore rifle -- a true long distance work of art . creedmore is the most likely I think but as the following says there were two others (both foreign who used "c" as their headstamp mark )---being it was american made thus most likely much more common my best guess using a which is most likely basis --its a creedmore cartridge co. shell (44 cal) fired in a henry gun (dual strikers).

I scaled the case by the ruler ,it appears to be the 10.4x38r Swiss cartridge. The longest of the Henry cartridge cases measure less than an inch in length.

The cartridge Hasbeen is describing and the one I described above are the same cartridge. I gave the American name for it as I couldn't find my Cartridges Of the World book. The Italians also used the Vetterli rifle with a similar sized cartridge but whether or not it had the double firing pin, I don't know.
