Hi again,

We tend to find a good many of these copper "things." We find them in groups and our thinking has been that they are used in the assembly of shell boxes, shipping crates, or some other wooded structures. We think they are period CW as we find them in places where other CW items are found and have not found them "out of context" with the war items.

This is the first one we have seen with a Star and hope it may be something someone has seen and remembered.

Any ideas would be welcomed.

Thanks,

Daryl

Yes we have seen star headed rivets posted here before. There was some debate but nothing that I can remember.

Funny you should post that Doc,

When Maggie and I were down in the Low Country January, I met up with a friend near Beaufort on his relatives Island property. It didn't take long until I stumbled on a medium sized Union CW camp. These were plentiful in the midst of the other relics he continues to dig to this day. I wish I were closer. They sure gave a helluva ring on my phones.

I have spoken with people who have found them where water and boats were frequented. Who knows?

There is so much history of this Country that still needs to be recovered . And the Civil War era really should be on the top of the list to recover so others may see what made this Nation what it is.

The star on the top of a bolt would indicate the relaltive metalic hardness of the bolt, but I dont' know about a rivit. Mont
