Keep on Digging!
Detector(s) used
MINELAB Explorer-II
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I was detecting an area mabe 35 miles from albany N.Y. where plenty of early Relics and Colonial coins have been found. One of the nice things about the area is, its all farm fields.... and the detecting is smooth sailing! The detector can be set at full bore and the signals hit like bombs.. this piece I found while there and have been unable to find it in any of the early books that I have...while the internet is my next attempt ,I thought I would just post it here in the Treasurenet and give the forum a chance !!!!
Thanks and any info would be helpful.............. :)

Hope nobody was looking in MY window while I was standing here trying to view it upside down. I was definately..............naked. But seriously, it doesn't look like like it was meant to be used like scissors or pliers... maybe the bottom part was originally a loop that got worn away? Maybe a cattle harness type thing? I dunno'. -Ben

Is it a nose ring for oxen training...and the reins would slip through the side slots? But it seems small when compared to the dime??? Hmmmm???

Hmmmmmmm.........I was hoping you would get in on this.....but dressed! Hahahaa.....The item is small if you compare it to the dime size ...and it does look like the bottom loop should be a complete circle that was broken and bent .....
I was thinking that two straps looped through the oval slots and something looped through the circle or hooked into it......
I know that seeker knows what it is and is just playing us......
Since everyone is having ,I guess a problem with looking at this piece upside down . I thought I would fix the situation by fixing the piece.....Now I'm confused !!!!! Mabe for some people looking at it right side up is better!!! lol Nice................

It looks like if you broke it in half you would have two beer bottle openers.

That is what held the chain together when a round of chain shot was fired from a British cannon. They would attach a link to the open end and then slip it through the slots which would cause it to spin in flight and take out a sail or mast. Actually I made that up and have all my clothes on. ;) Monty

I will take a stab at this....I think it may have something to do with spinning and weaving yarn. :P....

Haha! I think your the one spinning the yarn! ;D That's a nose ring for a beast of burden.

Hahahaa..... when compared to the dime in the picture, the ring is just under an inch wide and overall this peice is about 2 1/4 x 2 3/4......what Beast of Burden did you have in mind????

My guess: a piece of suspenders. The 2 smaller loops go to the shoulder straps and the 1 bigger one to the waistband. Just a guess.

I think the reins went through the two intact loops and the broken one had some sort of stationary static line on a harness set up on a team.
