After 23 years relic hunting this site hard to find new ground so re visited where the American's landed on the 28th of July and climbed a steep ridge and lost about 100 men dead or wounded. that day they took the high ground and instead of pushing the British back to the partially constructed fort where the British general was reading to give one shot of cannon fire at the rebels then haul up the flag and surrender the Americans just dug in.
One thing I have not found in 23 years is an encampment but today was that day. Got some large readings on my DEus and started digging. First came up a large section a iron cooking pot. Then out came the neck part of a rum bottle. It was apparent on the retreat the pot was intentionally broken and the other iron objects just thrown in the hole. Next to the hole a King George coin and probably the neatest relic a lead bale seal with a number "9"or "6" engraved on it. Last target a nice cartridge box buckle. Not pretty to look at but petty rare. A good day worh the bugs and ticks. Gary
