The finds weren’t that great, but it sure brought back a lot of good memories to detect here on Sunday. I first detected here in 2013, that was before the c1860 house and barn were torn down. This is yet another field that has been no-till for at least the past 6-years. I’ve also included some pics of how the site looked in 2014 compared to how it looks today. I actually started to tear-up a little when I went back into my files looking for my first pics of this site. :sadsmiley: It truly hurts me to see how much of our local history has been lost, all for the sake of building a new highway off ramp.

Some of the finds were a 1932 Canada One Cent, glass & brass buttons, toy figurines c1984 and an interesting brass relic which I can’t identify. Please let me know if anyone recognizes it.

It was pretty comical to watch the act put on by ‘Mama Killdeer’ to try and draw me away from her nest. :laughing7: After I took the pic, I gave her nest a wide birth so as not to spook her.

Thanks for looking,
Dave

Very nice detail and Congratulations on your recoveries

Killdeer are pretty cool birds. About 40 years ago I worked at a factory and every morning when I would walk out across the property to open the truck gates one of them would walk with me all the way to the gates and back. It never put on the 'injured' act, but acted more like a friend going for a morning walk with me.

Thanks Bill, hope you're keeping cool in Upstate NY my friend.
Nice finds Dave!
Thanks buddy, hope you're doing well these day.
Its a bit of an 18th C Nut Cracker.
Cru'dad got a complete one not long ago.
Thank you so much for the I.D. of the 18thc nut cracker Cru. Makes me wonder how it ended up here in a farm field at least 100' from the house and so badly broken too boot. :icon_scratch:

That was a great story JG, these birds show little fear when it comes to protecting the nest. But there's nothing as aggressive as a Canada Goose when they're protecting their babies.

Real nice finds and a cool looking place to hunt !
Thanks for your post E-Trac, I have a complete pane of glass from the top window of the barn in my workshop. Lots of good memories here... best of luck to you.

Our nut cracker was no where near where an old house was. Middle of a farm field.
