Detector(s) used
Ace 250 - DD and Sniper
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I plan on hitting a hill area that once had a small fort (redoubt) on it during the Rev War. There is no foundation left, just a flat area. I am armed with an Ace 250 (DD and sniper coils) and was wondering what types of signals I should be looking for? Should I go All Metal? Relics?

The issue is that the spot will have plenty of trashy (caps, foil, tabs, etc.) signals. Will using a sniper coil limit my depth drastically? Is the DD coil needed for the depth? How deep should I expect the targets to be in this 200 year old dirt?

For the record, the spot is open to metal detecting and I am good to go.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

I my self love to go out & find celler holes & relic hunt I think its alot of fun, if it were me & using what u have id start with the bigger coil it will go alot deeper then the sniper, if the Foundation was there id say use the sniper great for sneeking around the rocks. Now cuz u dont know whats really there id use all metal & in relic hunting Ud want those iron signals I would probly dig all. Another thing to is look around usually u may find signs of privys in the front & the back alot of stuff was thrown away & the foot traffic back & fourth, mayb to if u can kinda c mayb where the horses were tied up or visitors in buggys cams to visit. Try to visualize the place as much as possible & go for the harder to detect spots most some other detectorists will go for the easiest leaving the hard places untouchd, also under trees, bushes, etc good luck sounds like lots of fun

I'd probably go all Metal and dig everything repeatable. You're sure to dig some trash, but you could pinpoint and dig just the deeper signals. That might save you from digging some trash, after all you're seeking stuff that - if it's there, it's been there for a while now! Lol

That's probably how I'd play it. I'm sure other more experienced members will be along with some great tips shortly!

I've never had the chance to hunt a place like that, I wish you luck, and please post pics of anything cool you dig!
