Well now that the snow is finally gone I was able to get out for a hunt with a buddy today for a couple of hours. Of course I jumped right into the heart of the iron beds with my trusty explorer. I managed to pull 3 crusty coppers out amongst the many square nails. A couple of George II and 1 is a George III Hibernia I believe. They are pretty beat but I'll take em'.
The finds all came from an area about 6' x 6' and it was really concentrated. There was a lot going on in the ground there and hard to distinguish one target from the next. Some serious iron. I dug a pretty wide hole and pulled a few nails and some iron blobs and managed to reveal one of the George II coins. I swept my probe around a little more like I usually do and didn't hear anything. I kicked all the dirt back into the hole and ran the coil over the same spot and heard something right below the surface. I was thrilled to pull this beautiful Rev War 71st officers button from the dirt. It cleaned up really nice. This is the first one of these I have found.
One a side note...does anyone know the age of these hand made fishing weights?
