I headed back on Saturday morning for what seemed like only a quick 3hr hunt, that's because the temperature dropped, and it started to snow! Now, drizzle I can handle, but when my feet are cold and I'm having to constantly clean my glasses I know it's time to head for home! I decided to detect a sloping area where the kids would have been dropped off or waited for the school bus for school. One of the best finds I made yesterday was a lead backed, brass saddle makers shield rosette... all I can make out is "& SONS MAKER TORONTO". I'm thinking that I'll lightly tumble this piece in a fine stone medium for a couple of hours, then maybe in crushed walnut shells in the hopes of bringing up more of the detail.

The highlight of the hunt came when I found a three-coin spill consisting of a 1929 Penny, a 1930 Nickel and a 1913 Quarter! I also found a 1957 Quarter, an early two-piece brass button and part of what I think is part of a hair pin. I know that this sounds crazy, but while I was recovering the coin spill, I looked up and swear that for a split second I saw a boy wearing old Victorian looking clothes walking towards me. Now I know my mind was playing tricks on me (at least I hope it was) but I often feel a 'type of presence' like I'm being watched when I'm detecting old farm/school sites. I have included a picture of how the boy was dressed that I imagined. :icon_scratch:

Hope to get back here again on Sunday afternoon, as the temps are forecast to reach 8c. :hello2:

Thanks very much for looking,
Dave

I just read yesterday’s post, and you followed up with another great hunt.... great site!
Love it when you drool over a site for years, and when the ok comes, it pays off.

Yes sir, that’s a nice set of finds.

The shield is very interesting. Hopefully you can get more detail from it.

Good luck!

Love it all...the site, the finds, the vision, the photo, the sharing! Congratulations!

Great return hunt buddy! Nothing like getting a mitt full of keepers from a return hunt.:occasion14:

Now what's this all about ???
"a quick 3hr hunt, that's because the temperature dropped, and it started to snow! Now, drizzle I can handle, but when my feet are cold and I'm having to constantly clean my glasses I know it's time to head for home!"

Time to take the "WallyMart" boots off and get some man boots boy! Spending too much time in the heated cab to realize it's getting to be winter.:laughing7:
Toque, boots, rain gear, "insulated" dipped gloves, and hand warmers

Now don't make me get in my truck and drive down and suck that site dry on ya. :)

You've had 2 great hunts there. Glad its paying off.
Dont think your crazy. That kind of stuff has been happening to me my all my life.
Like to think there just interested in what your doing with there stuff or why your in there hangout spot.

Keep it up!

Great sight and recoveries mate. Looks like a lot of ground to cover. I hope this sight gives up many more cool old treasures and keeps you busy for some time. I hope the "presence" you felt is a kind one. Keep after it.

Thanks for your post Dave! :occasion14:
This site has definitely paid off, so far 9 silvers and 6 Canadian LC's!

Best of luck to you,
Dave

Thanks Tom,
The top of this piece shows considerable wear, so we'll have to wait and see how much detail is left. :icon_scratch:

Love seeing your finds as well.

Thanks for the 'warm up' info Jim! :laughing7:
I plan on 'Hoovering up' all of the finds before you can get here buddy!
Besides, I don't think you're allowed to stop work on the house to give me more lessons on the correct way to swing my detector! :laughing9:

Great post and treasure's! Congrats.

Thank you Sir! :icon_salut:

That is an interesting theory regarding "what your doing with there stuff or why your in there hangout spot". :laughing7:

My companies head office is based in Menomonee Falls and I've detected in the town on a couple of occasions.

Best of luck to you,
Dave

Thanks for the advice Kevin. :hello:
I'm not really a believer in 'spirits' but if they can point me in the general direction of my first gold coin, I'm willing to believe anything! :laughing7:
Dave

Nice bunch of finds congrats

Thanks very much Art.

Nice digs. You mentioned perhaps seeing a boy walking toward you. I’ve been there before too with catching glances of “beings”...and just so I don’t feel crazy, a few friends of mine have said the same thing (although they are crazy). It’s not often, but I believe it’s out there. A few years ago I even left a site.

Either way, nice digs, and congrats!

Thanks very much for sharing your experience here Scrappy.
You know how it is when you're all alone on a site and you get the feeling that you're being watched.
Although, I'm fairly certain it was just my mind playing tricks on me. :dontknow:

Best of luck to you my friend,
Dave

Your excellent research is really paying off. Those finds are the kind that really make you realize why it is so important to look into the history of a place.
Congratulations

Congratulations on your beautiful finds and fascinating story especially about the boy! Good luck to you!

Nice finds on a return trip! It’s nice to read about others’ finds when it is too cold to go out. Cool badge!

That was a Boy you saw his name was Hal and he wants his coins back... LOL Good post

Great finds! I love hunting around old schools. It's fun to imagine how kids would play and maybe lose a coin or two. Good luck on return visits. Maybe the boy can show you the area they played around most.

Thank you for your post and for your kind words ATW. :occasion14:
This is definitely a site of my dreams, hope to head back there again in the spring for another go.

Thanks again for your support this year and best of luck to you in 2018!
Dave

Thanks for your post Prospector.

Nice finds!! those are some neat old coins.

Thank you Sir! :icon_salut:
I was so sorry to here about the train accident in your town on Monday, my condolences.
Dave

Thank you Kim.
What I really makes me feel bad, is that this beautiful old school is now sitting empty and unused.
My only concern is that the next people to visit this site may well be the local fire department to extinguish a fire set by vandals. :BangHead:
Dave

That's funny Tommy! :laughing7:
This is actually and early picture of Sir Winston Churchill, the then future Prime Minister of Great Britain.

Thanks very much for your post and for your thoughts Dave! :occasion14:
This is exactly how I approach detecting these old one-room school houses... I imagine, "if I was a kid here, where would I hang out at recess to be out of sight of the teachers".
At the edges of these sites, under fence lines and at the bases of large old trees I find are the most productive.

Best of luck to you in 2018!

Really? If I were a ghost I'd be scared of you, lol
Nice finds Dave, I always like your pix
