[size=13pt][size=9pt]Help!!

Any advice on the best way to make this button shine again without taking a chance on messing it up?? :help: I just used water and a toothbrush.

I believe it is a one piece brass cast button if that makes a difference?? :dontknow:

tks in advance...

First Thanks for the advice on cleaning the button! :thumbsup: I appreciate that!

Can anyone help date the button for me. It looks like an imperial crown on the back along with "BEST QUALITY"

Thanks again in advance....

Re: Restoring Button?

Looks pretty bad ??? Is that dirt or hard crusty stuff ??? I'm no expert but some people use lemon juice but not sure how long etc ??? Someone will chime in. Buckleboy would be one person I can think of or Centinel or Monkeyboy, or 4H mike would know better than me

Re: Restoring Button?

Yes, if you can see some gold gilt poking through, put it in some half lemon juice/half water solution for a couple minutes.. pull it out and brush it with an old toothbrush.. if the crud is still there, dip it again for a bit

Try Jeffs (umrgolf2010) solution or concoction.
And watch that gilt pop right out at you! Plenty there for sure.
Fine button

Re: Restoring Button?

I've had success with aluminum jelly, as have others. Didn't believe it myself till I restored a silver plated button that for sure looked beyond help. Look it up.

That really cleaned up nice. I thought by the first pic that it was hopeless. Nice button. That lemon juice worked wonders :thumbsup:

That button will definitely pop with the lemon juice, its been a nice little tool I've used for years. You can even use straight lemon juice for quicker results, just don't leave it in for more than a few minutes per dip. Take out and wash with really warm to hot water and that really pops the gilt. Congrats on a nice gilted button :icon_thumleft: :wink:

Also,

Elad's solution works to. Aluminum Jelly is a good tool for bringing the gilt out also but you have to be very careful not to leave it on too long because it will eat right through... usually only 20 seconds and then wash off with warm water. :thumbsup:
