I found an old Ghost town Yesterday. There are probably 20 to 30 foundations, an old Railroad bed running through town and the depot foundation. From what I gather the town has been gone since 1950 to 1960. I have posted just a couple of the many pictures I took of the area. How do you hunt an area like this? It has been under water during flood years but seems to be intact. I also found an old car on the site. DO you think the back seat might have change in it? Any help on how to go about hunting would be greatly appreciated. I did find many old glass bottles in the area. I brought home an older 6 oz. Coke bottle that is in nice shape. Also a cork topped Raleigh's bottle that I damaged trying to dig out of a hole. Some older glass mason jar lids too. In 1900 this town had a semi pro baseball team. It also had an outdoor movie theater.

First of all it looks like a great site! Old foundations galore..
Not sure with the flood plain and all,I have a couple sites that floods of 93 hit hard, and may have been reason didnt find many coins. You will just have to check it out!
As far as coins in the car ? could be anything in the backseat..

Let us know what you find

With little or no idea what was actually there or when it was a town - I can only suggest detecting the areas along the sidewalks, driveways, and foundations. If there is evidence of large trees you can hit around those too.

It looks that your Research will pay off. Unless you feel like sharing, keep that potential honey pot to yourself. If it's just you grid off an area and slowly work it...Possible Riches await you. Good Luck and HH

In the floods of 93 this town was 31 feet under water. I have found many old oil can tops and bottoms, many glass bottles, and tons of ferrous iron on the site so far. I have yet to tell if the topsoil is silt left from the floods or if the floods have taken the silt away with it? You can still see the roadways through town. I have a 1930 aerial of the town and it shows how the town was laid out back then. As I walk around the various foundations the MD is going crazy. I have dug a limited amount of holes so far as I only brought my Leshe digger. The rains were coming so I figured I had better get out of the area before I was stuck there. I will return with a spade next time. Just hoping to find that large cache that got buried and forgotten about? You can still see the railroad ties on the railway line. The tracks were long ago removed. I am supposed to meet with someone who lived in the town back in the 50's so hopefully she can give me an idea of what and where the school, church, and store would have been. My guess is that either the water has buried all the good stuff or swept it away when the waters receded back into the river banks. Really kind of earie to stand in the middle of a town like this, you can almost hear the children playing in the streets. I finally removed my headphones as I kept thinking there was someone around me.

I plan on sharing this with DR. Ace from the forum and my Brother-in-law. I am trying to teach my brother-in-law how to use the E-trac. He only has used a bounty hunter pioneer 101 and the E-trac has him baffled. I bought two E-tracs so that I would have an extra to have others come along. It's more about the hunt than finding everything myself. I enjoy being there when others get to display their happy dance also.

HH,

Dave

Tell me where its at and I'll go work it for a few week and then let you know if its worth MD'ing. LOL just kidding

I would say work it just like you would work any other yard since you can see where everything is at, but it would be nice to know where the school and churchs were. I would thing that the coins are still there unless somebody else has MD'ed it in the past.

Good Luck and have fun

Looking at your pictures of the foundations and the sidewalks it looks like the dirt is still intact. Heck dig around the sidewalks in front of the foundations. Sure you will find some iron signals, but there will also be good mixed signals. If you find one that is out of the 0-15 range depending on what detector you are using dig it. Never hurts. I wouldn't give your spot away with to many pictures cause to me that looks like some prime hunting. Lots of foundations to hunt. Should keep you busy awhile.

Great looking area!
I would make a rough map drawing of the area
and then do spot checks of spots I would like to try.
Keep track of what different spots produce and then
decide where you would like to concentrate on.
Looks like you're going to be busy for quite along
time.

Just get permission, cover the whole lot & clear the junk. Might take a few weeks at least but unless you cover it all, how will you know for sure?

Dave,

Very intriguing site. Looks very promising!! Good job on the research. That is half the fun! Those pics are fantastic!

Yes keep us informed, looks prime!

That looks like a great spot!
I dont think the original soil has been disturbed much.
Those sidewalks are very much intact.
