I've done some local research and located turn of the century sites to detect but now that I'm addicted I want to find older sites. Early 1800s and 1700s.
Is there a forum on T-Net that discusses different research methods and if not can we start a thread. I'm looking for successful methods that you have used in the past to locate old sites. These may include battlefields, skirmish sites, homesteads, mills, stage coach stops, churches, schools, old groves, etc.
The items I've used to date are pretty basic. I've used local history books which I'm sure have been used by everyone and their brothers. I've also used Sanborn Insurance maps which were very helpful and informative. These maps range from the late 1800s to the 1930s and can be viewed on-line.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
