Back at the Colonial house I've been working since Thanksgiving...I was gridding an area that I've tentively hit before. My first target was a dropped musket ball. After a bit of a dry spell, I got a very shallow penny hit (ca. 1-1/2") and popped out a black disc. I saw it was holed and thin and knew it was OLD silver. Was too black to ID in the field, but it's a 178x Spanish 1/2 real. This my 3rd Spanish silver, 4th Spanish colonial coin, and 2nd 1/2 real. It's my first holed silver, very worn, but lot of character and my first colonial silver coin from this property! Here are some pics of it as it was cleaned by me.

Also found a very nice Colonial era buckle and a massive handle of some sort very deep at approx. 12" that will end up on the What Is It? section

Great finds. Congratulations! H Digs

Nice Score !

Thanks guys! Always a thrill to pull a Spanish silver coin! This one is the most worn of the silvers I've found, but it's also got the most character--what a story it could tell. I'm seeing 1874 in the scans.....what do you think??

She's in pretty bad shape Erik, but it counts just the same. Sounds like you found some other nice relics too. Post up some pics. Nice hunt!

Old silver,is old silver.....all kinds of character!!!!!

Wait till you see the Colonial Copper I found last weekend with NJLargeCent -- looks like it's been in a fire. Only thing I can see is an 1801 and it's 28-29mm in diameter. I was thinking Draped Bust, but it may be British...not sure. Will post pics of the remainder soon!

Hi K! Yes, I was still thrilled to pull it. Even though it's terribly worn and holed, I really do like the character of this one as silver always cleans up nicely compared to the coppers I dig here in NJ that can be hit or miss. The last one I found almost doesn't qualify as a copper! :laughing7: Pics soon...

I also see the 2, awesome find!

Erik, nice silver- still looking for my 1st. I see a "2" as casper has said. HH

Thank for the kind words (and kind icons :laughing7:) everyone and thanks to Casper for recognizing the correct date.

Nicely done, Erik! Glad that site gave up some old silver. I agree, it's got a lot of character that makes it unique and memorable. Hope your site gives more notables.
