I am searching from my missing son who we believe may be found near a
shotgun in thick deep woods in Jacksonville, FL. The woods are to thick
to work with dogs or horses but there is a small creek that cuts through
the area of concern. Do you know of a device we could use from the john
boat that would detect a shotgun in a 500 foot radius of thick woods? I
would appreciate it you could get back to me ASAP. I am also looking
for a way to rent one. Any ideas? We need to do the search immediately
and your help would be greatfuly appreciated. www.FindAustinDavis.com

SR is right. There is no metal detector that can pick up a rifle/gun more than perhaps 2 foot away. Maybe a 2-box unit could pick it up at 3 or 4 ft? But in any case, you'd have to be in the proximety. Stay away from Long Range Locator hocus pocus, dowsing, etc....

Contact the Coast Guard there at Jacksonville or Mayport. They have equipment(heat-seeking) and would probably help you locate your son.

Yes But Considering the Circumstances,
IF I was in your Situation and someone
Was willing to Try at no cost to Me,
I would open my Mind.

It can't hurt.

I don't know if this would work, but, for underwater search, they use a magnometer that is towed behind a boat. maybe you could tow one behind a helicopter. it might be worth a shot. ( no pun intended )

jeff of PA, if I offered them the assistance of my magic peanut butter sandwich at no cost, would you have an "open mind" that it might work? You're not close-minded are you?
