reputable people to get true values of coins

A reputable coin dealer can give you a good estimate, but you need to let him know you are simply appraising the coin for insurance purposes, and not trying to sell him the coin. If you are good at grading coins, then you can estimate wholesale and retail values by purchasing the blue book (wholesale prices or what a dealer might offer) or red book (retail price or what the dealer has to sell for in order to stay in business).

alan,

thanks for the info, will pass it on to my neighbor, and keep that in mind when i finallyfind that coin worthy of respect.lol...gregg

Also another note... If it is a large collection just a few coins, the dealer may charge something like $50 per hour to appraise.
