Reproduction is my guess

I dug this match safe over the weekend, the only example of it is a civil war era match safe. However, the eagle on it looks more primitive to me and it has 13 stars mine has 10 or 11ish....I know that reproductions are made but I can't find any info on this one. Just to be clear at this point I do not believe mine is an original, I just want to see if anyone has info on it one way or another. (Mine is on the left, non-dug example on right)

I searched 'eagle flag shield vesta' and saw a couple that have the 13 stars. None with fewer like yours.

Yours is old. Patina and condition say that it was in the ground for a long time. Impossible to say if it is CW era. I'd place it closer to turn of the 20th C.

No, I wouldn't say 'reproduction'. I did an image search and a couple were shown as 'civil war era' but I believe that whoever posted them came to that conclusion simply because it has a 'Union' styled eagle and shield on it. Just as they have no proof that it's civil war era, I have no proof that it's not, but I believe that it dates more to the era of patriotic sentiment stirred up by the sinking of the battleship Maine which led us into the Span-Am war

There are many examples with less than 13 stars. Here are a couple shown below. I tend to agree with jewelerguy on this one. I believe these are more of a turn of the century item.

Diggummup that was a good find, I couldn't find any examples! I am going to go with turn of the Century it would make more sense to me. Although I have found some Civil War era items out here in Colorado I just didn't think this was one of them.
