I’m on vacation, not that it means much as we are redoing the outside of the house. A few more days of hard work and it will be done and I can enjoy some time off. I am still getting out detecting a few hours here and there, have been detecting what I call the beer token field since it has produced around 16 beer tokens. Seems this field may have had a festival in the late 1800s as there have been several mid to late 1800s coins found as well here. This area has produced some of my best finds and there was a farm here from around 1000-1650 AD, many nice relics have also been recovered here including my gold coin. Here’s the house almost ready for the final coat of plaster/stucko, will be a light terracotta/pinkish color when finished.

Some surface finds, blue glass bead, clay bead and a few glass buttons.

A dog tag from 1896.

A belt hook that would have been sewn into the back of a military coat so the belt did not sag and a little ornate piece that looks to be silver.

Found about 15 coins dating from 1858 to 1924, no silver coins.

Obverse of a medallion commemorating the towns 700 year celebration in 1950, the same town will celebrate 1000 years next year. The town had moved from it’s original location in 1250 and no, I am not able to detect the original site, there is a big red X on my permit. A beer token and a religious pendant.

Found this beautiful old ring with a purplish stone intact, metal seems to be bronze. It is crude looking and I thought it was from the 1800s however, did some research on 1800s jewelry and it just seems to be much older, any help would be appreciated.

Back of ring. I can’t wait till this house is done as it has been 10 years since I started renovating it room by room, project by project, was an old farm house and still is however, will look really nice and it is paid for!!! HH, Mike

Great finds and nice house. Looks like a large house for Germany. Can you do construction work on Sundays?? I'm trying to get all my finds together from this past week, might need your help with a old coin I found.
P.S. My wife has an apartment in Freihung

:D I'm glad to see its not all work and no pay. Hope your enjoying the vacation and your family! They must be glad your home for more than just a weekend.:D Some great finds in your post, sorry I can't help you with dating that ring... Also sorry to hear you have a big red X on your card and can't hunt the old town site. We can only dream about what would come out of that site. Enjoy the next two weeks off. HH

Hey Iroq, send me a picture of the coin, I have a few research books. Maybe we can do a hunt within the next few weeks. I would not mind coming to Bamberg and getting out on the fields, could probably help get you permission as well. You are about 50 minutes away from me. Maybe try and get an area you are interested in and we can start there. To bad you do not have a copy of the town's history book, they are like treasure maps. Maybe the library has one you can use. I'll check with Headquarters and see if I can get a Saturday off.

Hey Desertfox, I can not detect the old town site but, I know two detectors who have, they do not have a permit. I even told the town I would detect the area and give all finds including trash to the museum, they said no and it will be pilfered instead. The oldest coin they found there was from the early 1300s, a silver hammered Bohemian Groeschen, I'll bet it is even earlier than they think and probably early 1200s as the coin was made for hundreds of years the same with only a few minor changes to fit the reigning king of the time. I found one from around 1320. HH, Mike

Towns loss, mike. To bad you have jerks that will hunt any where over there, too. I hope they get caught and recive a nice stiff fine for hunting without a permit. At least you tried and did the right thing. HH Buddy

The ring does look very old Mike, good luck on aging it.I'd love to get back over there one of these day's....Great stuff once again! You gotta post some pic's of the house when you're done...I guess with all your find's you need that kinda room....Congrat's and HH Mike..

Nice job on the house. I find most metal detectorists are do it yourself types.

Keep us updated on the old ring.

Congratulations on all the finds!

Nice finds Mike,

I guess that is the new stuff for you huh. Still a nice batch of finds. Have you found everyone of those coins before.

HH Jer

That is a wonderful ring looks very primitive hopefully someone will be able to help date it. I just love your home,if a couple of us fly over could we detect it? Would really like to see some pics of the inside of your place,HH...Shoot

Thanks all!!! The ring has two possible IDs, one being from the early 1800s and the other being Medieval 500-600 years old. The friend that IDed it as Medieval really knows his stuff and has seen many Medieval finds as he runs the Colchester Treasure Hunting in England. The two detectors who detected the old town site also found a cache, not here, of around 22 silver and 5 gold coins from the early 1500s, I saw a few of the coins, drool! HH, Mike

I would date the ring as 1800s. Also looks abit art deco 1920s

Very nice stuff Mike. I never had A problem hunting any where in the Rhineland Phaltz area. Alot of people would point and laugh or ask questions but no one seemed to care. I always gave junk coins or 50 cal shells away to the kids that would not leave me alone. They would leave with there new treasure and I would have a little more time to hunt with out a million queistions. I think I only had one person ever get upset with me digging and that was because they used the field to train dogs. The history there is amazing.
