Hey folks...
It been quite awhile since I last posted here, back in June when my Bro-n-law found his 1st "CS" belt tongues back to back. I had a 1st for me on Thursday...A co-worker that I have permission to hunt deer on his property told me to check out an area that he thought may have been a foundation. I took on the offer and hiked a 1/2 mile back into the mountain to the spot he had mentioned. My 1st recovery was a Catholic Virgin Mary pendant, just feet away I recovered my 1st Eagle "I" cuff button, soon after an General Service eagle button...I was totally in amazement! ...
Darkness was comming and I headed out after about an hour, so when I got home and chatted with some buds about my finds I started to research this particular area. I found an 1865 land map of the area, and found that there is a named person on the map in the exact location I found the buttons. This spot is so secluded, I mean, to the untrained eye, one wouldn't see this area as ever being a residence. Once I put a name on this site I researched him and found that he was mustered into service on June 12 1862 to the 6th Maryland Infantry Reg, Co. D, he was wounded in battle, which I couldn't findout where, and was mustered out of service on August 20, 1865.
Talk about 1st!...I'm continuing to research him to find out all I can. I plan on going back to this spot sometime this week...Who knows...There may be more to recover.
