the cross style on the bird is of the the orthodox greek (russian too) catholic cross style -- the "bird" maybe the dove --the sign of peace --the crown over the dove meaning "god" ---- its hollow look means it might have been some sort of locket possibly at least thats my take on it at this time

Ivan,
Thanks for the great info. I checked the piece out closely, and dont think it was made to open like a locket. I think it may have had just a ring at the top to hang as a necklace. It is a nice heavy piece too.

Is is a locket?

No clasp at the top or hinge anywhere. I thought it was a locket at first too.

upon very close looking there seems to be some design or lettering on the crown front and rear -- can you make out anything?

Ivan,
There are only two arch shaped lines and two dots making up a design on the crown.
Thanks,
MM

The bottom looks like 666 from left.

The bottom right looks like 666 for those who suffer from dyslexia.

The bottom feathers actually do look like a 6, 5 and then reverse 5, 6.

The curiously phallic symbol of the head is,,, well,,, curious.

I didn't want to say it, but I agree. ;)

I don't think it's a cross at all, just a design. The Greek Orthodox and Russian Orthodox crosses are always depicted with a slanted footrest... not a straight one, and certainly not longer then the main cross beam. Or - I am wrong completely...

That's a strange piece... good luck with an ID... try phallics r us...
